Parent & Tot, Kindergym and Junior Recreational Classes
These programs are designed for children from 18 months to 6 years of age. LGA’s program is the result of many years of development and is well recognized in Canada as a terrific foundation for body awareness and for fitness development.
Gymnastics is an excellent sport to develop balance, strength, coordination, flexibility and selfconfidence. This aspect makes our Parent and Tot, Kindergym and Junior programs the perfect starting point for many other sports as well. Parents often comment on how well our classes prepared their children for skating, dance, soccer, etc. Children usually work on various levels of skill development; however, the extent to which they are assisted varies depending on their level of confidence and skill. These programs enable children to progress at their own pace within their particular age group. We incorporate many circuits into our classes to keep children active, stimulated and challenged!
Written, individual reports of accomplishment are given at the end of each session. Parent and Tot children receive a certificate rather than a report. In addition to monitoring your child’s progress through the CanGym system, we also invite all parents into the gym to observe a special demonstration at the last class of each session.
Intermediate and Senior Recreational Classes
LGA’s recreational programs continue the athlete’s development and offers entry points for school age children wishing to continue their gymnastics exploration.
The Recreational Program focuses in on three principles: Fun, Fitness and Fundamentals! LGA takes pride in offering children the opportunity to develop a positive attitude and enthusiasm for gymnastics and helps them to realize the rewards of physical activity. Children learn to work within small groups and to master individual skills independently. Most classes operate at an athlete to coach ratio of 8:1.
At this level of gymnastics, primary attention is given to teaching proper form, technique and execution of skills. This allows children to progress further in their basic skill development on each apparatus. Children are encouraged to explore different levels of motor fitness development in a comfortable, secure environment. When children feel good about themselves and develop confidence, they are more likely to explore and welcome new learning challenges. The variety of appartus used and skills learned provide continuous opportunities for reward and fosters increased self-esteem. Our goal is to foster a positive learning experience for children as they continue their gymnastics career in a state-of-the-art facility with outstanding coaching and leadership.
Written, individual reports of accomplishment are given at the end of each session. In addition to monitoring your child’s progress through the CanGym system, we also invite all parents into the gym to observe a special demonstration at the last class of each session.
LGA offers a wide variety of quality programming at the recreational level. Most recreational classes are offered in three sessions (Fall, Winter and Spring) throughout the school year. During the summer, classes are offered in flexible format or are available in our Day Camps.
If you wish to place your child in an advanced class they first need to receive the prerequisite badge (Adv. KG – Red/ with recommendation of coach; Jr. Adv – Tan; Int. Adv – Bronze; Sr. Adv – Purple). If you register your child for an advanced class without the prerequisite badges, the registration will be void and you may risk losing a spot for your child.
